My New Venture – ThisIsNotAScene.com

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Over the past 18 months I have rediscovered my love of music.  Before then I hadn’t totally forgotten about music but it had taken a back seat and was just something to do when I was bored or just in the background. Now, music has return to being an integral part of my everyday life. As an example, I joined Last.fm in November 2009, now six months later I have scrobbled over 20000 songs and that doesn’t include the CDs I have listened to at home or in the car.

Also over the last 18 months I have been writing reviews of the gigs I have been to and the albums I had bought too. This was something that I really enjoyed doing and one of the reasons I started blogging. Over recent months the reviewing has snowballed and now I regularly receive review copies of albums.

With the positive feedback I had received and the rise in my own confidence towards writing I decided I would launch a website solely for the purpose of reviewing music, both live and recorded.

So, without further ado, I would like to introduce you all to my new venture ThisIsNotAScene.com. Here you will find all of my previous reviews, as well as a few new ones I have written recently. ThisIsNotAScene.com is purely a review site, there are many excellent Music News sites out there that more than adequately cover that area so don’t expect the latest happenings to be listed. What you will find is what I think about the shows and albums I have been to and listened to.

I will still continue to write non-music based post here on this blog but all music related post will now be posted on ThisIsNotAScene.com. You can keep uptodate with new posts by following the ThisIsNotAScene.com Twitter account @ThisIsNotA5cene.

I hope you enjoy reading my posts as much as I have enjoyed writing them!

When did Tattoos become mainstream?

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

When I was a teenager getting a tattoo or a piercing was solely the domain of alternative people, those wanting to be different from the mainstream. Tattoos and piercings were sported by metalheads, goths and the occasional indie kid.

However, now it seems that everyone has tattoos and piercings. You walk into a pub and 9 out of 10 people have tattoos visible.

Don’t get me wrong I am in no way against tattoos or piercings I just feel that it is now more of an alternative statement to not have any tattoos or piercings!

Major fail for US Authorities

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Today, I was shocked to see footage of a Boeing 747 flying low over New York.  At first glimpse it looks as though the jumbo jet is being chased by a fighter plane.  The footage showed people shouting and running for safety, completely unaware as to what was happening.  Skyscrapers emptied, people were panicking trying to flee.  It appeared as if 9/11 was happening all over again…..

It actually turns out that it was Air Force One flying low for the purpose of a photo shoot…  Somewhere along the line there was a breakdown in communication and nobody was told it was happening!  Major Fail!!! It appears that even Mayor Bloomberg was unaware that the photo-op was going to happen, how can this happen?  The idea of the photo-op is a good one, Air Force One can be seen as a symbol of hope but not telling the people of New York is wholly unforgivable!

I can only imagine what was going through the hearts and minds of the people of New York as this scene unfolded itself, it seem incomprehensible to me that something so insensitive like this could happen.

Somebody owes the people of New York a HUGE APOLOGY!
